Careers Programme Information

'Careers' is delivered in Years 7, 8, and 9 via a ‘Careers Week’ in March to coincide with National Careers Week.  Pupils in Years 10-11 have timetabled discrete Careers lessons, with an emphasis on preparation for adulthood and making choices for transition.  Students in the Sixth Form have access to a structured Employability programme through their individualised Study Programmes and the Preparation for Adulthood Curriculum.

Aegir uses the Gatsby Benchmarks and the six learning areas from the Career Development Institute Framework to measure progress in Careers. The impact can be measured through the success of our students, of which 100% move on to suitable further education, developing independence programmes or employment. There is a strong expectation that students will develop employability skills through a Work Skills programme which is supported by local employers and outside agencies to ensure that students are equipped with the skills and knowledge to be able to make choices and experience success in adult life.

On 25th November 2022, the assessment for the national Quality in Careers Standard took place with the following result:

"I am delighted to announce that it has been recommended that Aegir be awarded the Quality in Careers Standard using the 'Career Mark approach' with Complete Careers and is making good progress towards the Gatsby Benchmarks."
