The Sixth Form at Aegir is a vibrant, inclusive environment which provides opportunities for students to develop personal skills, achieve their potential, gain an understanding of the world of work and prepare for adulthood by developing independence and gaining an understanding of their responsibilities as they move on.
Students all study Maths and English at either Functional Skills level or GCSE and follow Personal Development courses to include Current Affairs, Citizenship, COPE and Life Skills. Further choices are then made based on their own aspirations. Those available include BTECs in Land Based Studies, Jamie Oliver Home Cooking Skills, Sport and Fitness, ICT, Design and Technology as well as vocational courses such as First Aid, Food Hygiene and Health and Safety.
Our students are role models for the lower school and take an active role in helping younger students in organising events for parents and students; we believe that this develops a sense of responsibility and gives students a sense of pride.
Community links are very important and we work closely with such businesses as The Haven Equestrian Centre in Saxilby where we offer the BTEC Land Based Studies course which includes the care of small animals and horse care. We have also established a relationship with the Ferndene Care Home where we have created a sensory garden and work with the residents as part of the BTEC Health and Social Care Award. Our students enjoy these links with the community and we will continue to build upon these.
