Attendance

At Aegir, we are committed to an inclusive and ambitious approach to attendance. Every student is supported to attend well and achieve their potential.

We understand that some of our students may face additional barriers to attendance. We work proactively with families to understand these and remove them through strong relationships, clear routines and consistent support. Safeguarding and wellbeing underpin everything we do. We want every student to feel safe, secure and ready to learn.

Good and improving attendance is regularly celebrated in school, recognising every step forward.

Reporting Absence

If your child is unwell or unable to attend school:

  • Please contact the school office by 8:30am on the first day of absence

  • Provide your child’s name, class, reason for absence, and expected return date (if known)

  • Please update us each day of absence, unless otherwise agreed

If we do not hear from you, we will contact you to ensure your child is safe. If we are unable to make contact, we will follow this up in line with our safeguarding procedures.

HSC Advice: Do I need to keep my child off school?

Medical Appointments

  • Wherever possible, appointments should be made outside of school hours
  • If this is not possible, please inform the school in advance
  • Evidence of the appointment may be requested
  • Pupils should attend school before and/or after appointments where possible

Leave of Absence (Holidays)

Leave during term time is not routinely authorised.

  • Requests must be made in advance using a Leave of Absence Form (available from reception)
  • Absence will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances

Punctuality

The school day starts at 8:45am.

  • Arriving on time is important for learning and wellbeing
  • Persistent lateness will be monitored and followed up with parents/carers

Working Together

Good attendance supports your child’s learning, wellbeing and sense of belonging. We will always work alongside families to understand any barriers and offer support. In return, we ask that parents and carers:

  • Keep us informed of any absence
  • Ensure their child attends regularly and on time wherever possible
  • Work with us when support is needed

As part of this, our ‘Stay on Track’ approach supports a shared understanding of attendance between school and home. This is regularly shared through ClassDojo, alongside termly updates for parents and carers on their child’s attendance, helping to keep attendance clear and consistently communicated between home and school.
