Aegir Objectives

2025 - 2026

To ensure that any gaps in attainment between groups are not significant

The progress of all pupil groups is monitored carefully to identify any underachievement and adapt provision where needed. Senior leaders, key staff and the governing body regularly review progress to ensure all pupils are supported to achieve their potential.

To ensure that every voice matters

We recognise that every pupil has the right to be heard and to play an active role in their learning and school experience. Pupil voice is central to our practice, and pupils are supported to communicate their choices, views and aspirations in ways that are meaningful to them. We make effective use of visual support, assistive technology and communication strategies to promote confidence, independence and self-advocacy.

To promote spiritual, moral, social and cultural development through the curriculum, with particular reference to equality and diversity

Through assemblies, PSHE, humanities and enrichment opportunities, pupils develop an understanding of different cultures, religions, beliefs and communities. Learning is further enriched through visits, community experiences and meaningful real-world opportunities which broaden pupils’ understanding of the world around them. We actively promote equality, respect and inclusion, and any incidents involving discriminatory language or behaviour are addressed promptly and appropriately.

To ensure that pupils attend school regularly and arrive punctually

Attendance is monitored closely, and where concerns arise, the school works in partnership with families and relevant agencies to improve attendance. A graduated response is used to support pupils and families effectively.

To ensure that teaching and learning are appropriately adapted so that all pupils can achieve their full potential

Through whole-school monitoring and evaluation, senior leaders and subject leaders ensure that teaching, learning and provision are adapted to meet the individual needs of pupils across all pathways.

To provide additional support for disadvantaged pupils through the effective use of pupil premium funding

Pupil premium funding and other additional funding streams are used in a targeted and effective way to support pupil progress and wellbeing. The impact of this funding is monitored regularly by senior leaders and the governing body.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to meet the needs of all pupils and provide an appropriate level of challenge and support across each pathway.

All pathways provide access to a broad and balanced curriculum, with learning adapted to meet pupils’ individual needs, strengths and aspirations. In addition, all pathways include:

  • Relationships and Health Education
  • Relationships and Sex Education
  • Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development
  • British Values
  • Careers Education and Guidance (Years 7–13)

Explorers - Explorers are pupils with more complex needs who are working at very early developmental levels. They access a multi-sensory, play-based and experiential curriculum, similar to an Early Years approach to learning.

Adventurers - Adventurers follow an adapted curriculum with a strong focus on practical, hands-on learning linked to real-life experiences and meaningful contexts.

Pioneers - Pioneers are our most able learners and follow a more formal curriculum pathway derived from the National Curriculum, with opportunities to work towards recognised accreditation and qualifications.

To promote personal development and preparation for adulthood

We are committed to supporting every pupil’s personal development by building the skills, confidence and independence needed for life beyond school. Through a broad and meaningful curriculum, pupils develop communication, social, emotional and practical skills tailored to their individual needs and aspirations.

To provide meaningful experiences beyond the classroom

Pupils have access to a wide range of off-site visits and community experiences which enrich learning and promote independence. Activities are carefully planned to ensure they are accessible, meaningful and appropriate for individual pupil needs.

We regularly review our practices to ensure equality, accessibility and inclusion remain at the heart of our school.
