We actively promote British Values through our curriculum, our relationships and our daily practice. For our students, this is not about abstract concepts, but about developing understanding through meaningful experiences, communication and interaction.

Democracy

At Aegir, having a voice is fundamental.

We support all students to communicate their views, preferences and choices in ways that are meaningful to them. This may include speech, symbols, objects, AAC, gesture or body language.

By listening to and responding to each pupil’s voice, we teach that every individual matters. Students are given regular opportunities to make choices, contribute to decisions and take part in shared experiences such as School Council.

Rule of Law

We provide a calm, consistent and predictable environment where expectations are clear and understood.

Students are supported to understand boundaries, routines and the impact of their actions, at a level appropriate to their development. Through this, they learn a sense of fairness, responsibility and safety.

Our approach is rooted in strong relationships and trust, ensuring students feel secure and able to engage positively with learning and others.

Individual Liberty

We encourage pupils to develop independence, confidence and a sense of self.

Students are supported to make choices, express preferences and develop their own identity. This includes learning to make decisions, take appropriate risks and understand that their actions have meaning and consequence.

Through our preparation for adulthood work, students are supported to develop the skills they need to participate in society and live as independently as possible.

Mutual Respect

Respect is central to life at Aegir.

We model and promote positive relationships at all times, supporting pupils to interact with others in ways that are appropriate and meaningful for them. Students learn to value themselves and others, celebrating differences and recognising shared experiences.

Through a wide range of opportunities, both in school and in the community, pupils engage with different people, environments and experiences, helping them to build confidence and social understanding.

Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs

We promote understanding and respect for different cultures, beliefs and ways of life.

Through our curriculum, assemblies and wider experiences, pupils are introduced to a range of traditions, celebrations and communities. These experiences are carefully adapted to ensure they are accessible and meaningful for all learners.

We aim to develop curiosity, awareness and acceptance, preparing pupils to be part of a diverse and inclusive society.
