Careers Programme Information
'Careers' is delivered in Years 7 and 8 via a ‘Careers Week’ in March to coincide with National Careers week. Pupils in Year 9 have timetabled discrete Careers lessons. Pupils in Key Stage 4 also have timetabled discrete Careers lessons which form part of the ASDAN Bronze and Silver qualification. Students in the Sixth Form have access to a structured Employability programme through their individualised Study Programmes and the Preparation for Adulthood Curriculum.
Aegir uses the Gatsby Benchmarks and the six learning areas from the Career Development Institute Framework to measure progress in Careers. The impact can be measured through the success of our students, of which 100% move on to suitable further education, developing independence programmes or employment. There is a strong expectation that students will develop employability skills through a Work Skills programme which is supported by local employers and outside agencies to ensure that students are equipped with the skills and knowledge to be able to make choices and experience success in adult life.
Aegir is currently working towards accreditation through the National Careers Mark which highlights the links to the Gatsby Benchmarks, a robust and comprehensive careers curriculum and the high expectations that we have of our students. There is an emphasis on resilience and on key Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT and how students apply these as they prepare for an ever changing world of work.
For 2022, 'Careers Week' is running from Monday 7th through to Friday 11th March - please visit our Gallery to see some of our photos.
