Welcome to 6th Form

The Sixth Form at Aegir is a vibrant, inclusive environment which provides opportunities for students to develop personal skills, achieve their potential, gain an understanding of the world of work and prepare for adulthood by developing independence and gaining an understanding of their responsibilities as they move on.

All students follow an individualised Study Programme which includes Maths and English at the appropriate level; this includes Functional Skills up to Level 2, preparation work for GCSE or a Life Skills based portfolio. There is an emphasis on personal development through Current Affairs, Citizenship, Health and Wellbeing, Employability and Digital Skills to equip students with the tools they need as they move on to adult life. Students may also choose courses in Horticulture, Cooking, Hospitality, Creative Media, Animal Care and Design Technology to develop knowledge and skills in a particular area of interest to prepare for moving on to a more specialised college course.

Our Sixth Form students are role models for the lower school and take an active role in leading by example, supporting younger students through the Scouts Young Leaders Programme and taking on work-related responsibilities around school.  They play a key role in organising many of our fundraising events in school for students/pupils and parents/carers; we believe that this develops a sense of responsibility and pride. Community links are very important and we work closely with local businesses, colleges and other schools in the area, as well as accessing our local community on a regular basis.

The work we do links directly to the Preparation for Adulthood Outcomes of Employment, Independent Living, Community Inclusion and Health.  Applications to the Sixth Form are made through the Annual Review process with the majority of our Year 11 students staying on for one, two or three years, depending on their aspirations.
